We are pleased to announce a new publication from our research team in Microsystems & Nanoengineering.
The article, entitled “Balancing surface chemistry and biocompatibility: an analysis of poly(dimethylsiloxane) and polyethylene terephthalate membrane bonding methods in Lab-on-a-Chip systems for cell culture”, was authored by Oliwia Tadko, Magdalena Flont, Oliwia Lewińska, Jakub Trzciński, Krzysztof Mrozik, Agnieszka Gnyszka, and Elżbieta Jastrzębska.
The study investigates polydopamine (PDA) as an alternative strategy for bonding PDMS and PET membranes in Lab-on-a-Chip systems designed for cell culture. The use of PDA coatings resulted in improved bonding strength and leak-proof performance, while maintaining surface biocompatibility and supporting efficient cell adhesion and culture.
The proposed approach provides a promising strategy for the development of reliable and biocompatible PDMS–PET microsystems, addressing the challenge of combining robust device fabrication with conditions suitable for biological applications.
This work was supported by an OPUS 21 grant funded by the National Science Centre (NCN), Poland, under the supervision of Elżbieta Jastrzębska.
Congratulations to all authors on this achievement!
