New publication: The role of microsystem geometry in hydrogel docking and cell culture

We are pleased to announce a new publication from our research team in Biomaterials Advances entitled “How does Microsystem geometry affect hydrogel docking and cell culture?”

The study, authored by Oliwia Tadko, Agnieszka Jankowska, Magdalena Flont, Jakub Trzciński, Dominik Kołodziejek, and Elżbieta Jastrzębska, investigates how microsystem geometry influences hydrogel docking and its performance in cell culture applications.

The results demonstrate that microsystem architecture plays an important role in hydrogel retention, stability, and localization. The study compares pillar- and ladder-based geometries, showing that hydrogel confinement depends on both the device architecture and the properties of the hydrogel. Importantly, these factors also influence diffusion, cell viability, and cellular organization within the hydrogel.

These findings provide valuable insights for the design of hydrogel-based microsystems and may contribute to the development of more effective and reproducible platforms for advanced in vitro cell culture.

The research was carried out as part of the LIDER POB-BIB-2 project, funded by the IDUB Programme and conducted under the supervision of Elżbieta Jastrzębska.

Congratulations to the entire team!
